Community Gardens in San Francisco

The Fort Mason Community Gardens.

This garden is a colony of 80 small beds, about 4 x 10, each maintained by a different person. There is a waiting list of over 100 people who would like to have a bed.

I was especially interested in the interesting things that people had put in their gardens. They ranged from flowers, huge dahlias, roses, lavender, rosemary; to vegetables, tomatoes, squash, pumpkins, and even figs.

Decorations included the trellises made from pipes, wind-mill type birds, a Miss Piggy, stones, urns, an old chair, each bed expressing the interests of its owner in a different way.
