REMINDER: Lavender Festival at my home is June 20th this year. We will be open from 8am to 2pm. We will not be doing a dinner this year as we have been invited to the wedding of our dear friends Paul & Steve. We will have lavender scones and lavender coffee in the morning!

Spring Ephemeral Wildflower season is right around the corner.
CT Orchid Society Hikes - also open to the public
Saturday May 30th Meet at The Stone Museum at People's State Forest in Riverton, CT. www.stonemuseum.org www.stateparks.com/peoples.html
8:00 am.
Bring water, snacks, lunch, and bugspray. Be sure to have good solid hiking boots on.
We will start by going up the trail right around the site, then cross over the roadway and go up the trail we had descended 2 years ago. Once we reach the Beaver Meadow we will continue on several trails in that area, then come part-way back down, heading across the ridge, then descending stairs to the East River Road, which we will return south on to get back to the Stone Museum.
Slow pace, lots of photos. Orchids: Cypripedium acaule, Pink Ladyslipper should be in full bloom, leaves of 2 types of Goodyera should be seen. I expect to see at least 20 other species of spring ephemeral wildflowers in bloom, possibly including Trilliums, May Apples, Wild Ginger, Saxifrage, and Fringed Polygala.
Sunday May 31 Meet at The Stone Museum, same location as prev, at 12:00 noon. Walk south on East River Road, come up the West River Road. That has a couple of trails that intersect with it, then at the top we will reach where the Old Hitchcock Factory is located and a parking area. Kayakers are welcomed to bring their boats and return the 3.3 miles down the river to the parking area. I plan to leave my boat, padlocked to the picnic table, before the start of the walk, with my paddles and various gear stored in my locked vehicle. Would be happy to coordinate this with anyone interested; e-mail me at Allgrove@hotmail.com, you WILL need a skirt to "shoot" this class 2 river, I have several to spare.
For Saturday night I will be tenting at Granville State Forest, MA, as the AMERICAN LEGION STATE FOREST sites were all filled up. I will also be fly fishing and welcome anyone to join me for camping and or fishing, as long as you have your own tent, reservations, and of course fishing license!
Campsite Reservations: www.reserveamerica.com. This site is great for reservations ANYWHERE in the USA.
I will be going out most weekends, and plenty of days after work coming up soon.
Also - cut your lavenders back NOW - to 1/3 of their current size.
And...we finally identified the old rose as Ispahan, a Damask that was named in 1832, it's a species and I have divisions available for anyone who is interested!
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN JOINING ME ON HIKES YOU NEED TO SPEAK WITH ME IN PERSON FOR TIMES AND DIRECTIONS.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
If you would like me to come and talk to your Garden Club, Plant Society, or other Organization, please contact me! I am available for talks with slides or Power Point presentation, and can do workshops on making Lavender Wands, Cold-process Soap Making, and Re-potting Orchids. I am also available to guide Hikes or Quiet-Water Kayaking.
I have organically grown lavender available by the bunch as well as a variety of non-food lavender products.
